Atletico Madrid's poor domestic form continued as they could only draw 1-1 away to La Liga's bottom side Espanyol on Sunday.

Diego Simeone's side had been lifted by last week's 3-1 win over Villarreal and their 1-0 Champions League success over Liverpool but struggled against a determined Espanyol and fell behind through an own goal from Stefan Savic in the 24th minute.

It took an impressive save from Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak to keep out a strike from Victor Sanchez later in the first half which...

Shaka Hislop believes football clubs have a responsibility to help eliminate racist incidents in stadiums.

Spanish club Espanyol says they have identified 12 fans who racially insulted Athletic Bilbao player Inaki Williams in their 1- 1 La Liga draw last weekend.

Espanyol said on Monday in a statement that nine of the fans were club members and would face punishment that could include suspension or a full-time ban.

They said a report of their analysis of the video images of Saturday's game at RCDE Stadium were sent to authorities.

The club reiterated its "categorical condemnation of any displays of...

Athletic Bilbao's Inaki Williams reports racist abuse during Espanyol clash

Shaka Hislop believes football clubs have a responsibility to help eliminate racist incidents in stadiums.

Athletic Bilbao forward Inaki Williams has said he was racially abused by fans during his team's 1-1 draw at Espanyol in La Liga on Saturday.

Williams, 25, had been substituted in the 69th minute and was walking behind one of the goals at the RCDE Stadium, where Espanyol's hardcore 'ultra' fans are located, when the incident happened.

"I leave here feeling sad because of the draw and because I've been subjected to racist insults," Williams said after the game. "It's something that no black player,...

Gab Marcotti and Shaka Hislop believe Barcelona are dangerously overreliant on Lionel Messi.

Espanyol are facing possible punishment after La Liga asked for abuse aimed at Barcelona, Gerard Pique and his partner Shakira during last weekend's Catalan derby to be looked into.

La Liga sent a report to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) this week which detailed 13 separate occasions when Espanyol supporters breached the league's anti-violence rules during the 2-2 draw.

Chinese striker Wu Lei scored a late goal to earn Espanyol  a 2-2 draw with Barcelona in an entertaining affair in the Catalan derby.

Barcelona were trying to move back to the top of La Liga after Real Madrid beat Getafe 3-0 earlier in the day, but they were down 1-0 inside of 25 minutes when David Lopez's glancing header from a free kick left Neto frozen footed in the visitor's goal.

Ernesto Valverde's side grew into the game as the half wore on with Lionel Messi heading right at Espanyol...
