ISL scenarios: Mumbai, Chennaiyin, Odisha scrap for final spot

FC Goa sealed top spot and a historic AFC Champions League berth in style with a 5-0 win over Jamshedpur in their last group game. While Mumbai and Bengaluru FC will fight it out for the third place -- there could still be a three-way battle for the final play-off .

Top two confirmed

FC Goa

Current points - 39

The win over Jamshedpur means Goa will be India's representatives to Asia's premier club competition, the AFC Champions League.

ATK

Current points - 33

Games remaining -  Bengaluru (A)

As a result of Goa running riot against Jamshedpur, the two-time champions will have to be content with second spot on the table.

Bengaluru FC

Current points - 29

Games remaining - ATK (H)

Bengaluru must draw or win against ATK in their final match in order to secure third spot -- a defeat in that game and a possible Mumbai win against Chennaiyin would mean they finish fourth.

Battle for top four

Mumbai City FC

Current points - 26

Games remaining - Chennaiyin (H)

Mumbai's final match against Chennaiyin could be a virtual knockout for the last playoff spot. If Bengaluru lose to ATK, Mumbai can even secure third spot with a win in their last game, due to their superior H2H against BFC.

Chennaiyin FC

Current points - 25

Games remaining -  Mumbai City (A), NorthEast United (A)

Chennaiyin's game-in-hand means they still have a chance for this late season charge to end with a flourish. Their win at ATK has given them a massive boost, and that match against Mumbai on February 21 becomes oh, so crucial. Win, and a place in the top four is theirs.

Odisha FC

Current points - 24

Games remaining - Kerala Blasters (H)

The team with an outside chance of making it to the top 4. We say outside chance, because for it to happen, the stars need to align so --

a) They win their remaining game b) Mumbai draw against Chennaiyin, and Chennaiyin either lose or draw against NorthEast in their last game. (Odisha lead both Mumbai and Chennaiyin)
